Tanzanian President John Magufuli admonishes media organizations of scandal-mongering, a day after he fired his Information Minister apparently for standing up for country’s press freedom.
The former Tanzania Information minister Nape Nauye had ordered inquiry into an incident involving regional commissioner, who last week invaded Clouds TV station with armed police officer forcing the station to air a contentious footage of a political rival.
“I said at the time of releasing the report of the inquiry that there is always a price to pay for standing up for justice,” Nauye told reporters on Wednesday.
According to Dubai-based research group Teneo Intelligence, the Commissioner Paul Makonda is an ally of Magufuli.
During Friday’s oath taking ceremony of new ministers, Magufuli had stern words for the journalists and media owners.
